Well, we survived the 1st annual God Squad campout at Camp Lakeside and what a great time it was. We took 24 kids, 7 high schoolers, and 4 adults to Lakeside for the weekend and played together, worshipped and sang together, had Bible studies together, goofed off and ate together. We gathered around the campfire at night, got up early in the mornings, climbed hills, swam, launched water balloons, and just had an all around good time. The top picture is the group prior to leaving for home on Sunday. the 2nd picture was taken during the "fill the pitcher with food" game which was actually a little gross, but of course, the kids loved it. A special thanks to Aimee for organizing the weekend. She did a great job. Also thank to the high schoolers who helped out as counselors - Megan, Megan, Meghan (crazy), Breck, Phillip, Trenton, and Matthew, and to Ann S. and Arthur (from Baxter Springs), the other two adults.
The weather was super, the food was wonderful, the kids were great, and God showed up, just as we expected. So thanks to all of you for sponsering the kids, sending the kids, providing transportation for the kids, praying for the kids, etc.etc. Next year??? My guess is a big resounding "yes"!

Sounds like you all had a great time! Tayler will be taking full body armor next year, he looked like he spent the weekend in Iraq! Thanks so much Aimee, Rick and all who helped!
I think camp sure sounded like a great time! Although aren't we a church? I feel it would have been better to stand up in church and announce that the God Squad Camp was for those who attended God Squad on a regular basis, but we sure wouldn't turn away any child. Don't get me wrong, I understand wanting to reward those children who came faithfully, but to punish the ones who didn't? And why were some children allowed to go after only attending three times? We are not a school system, we are not the Scouts...we are the church. ALL should be allowed to attend. A few days at a church camp for a child may be exactly what they need to experience. Please don't make it "your" rules, but instead ask yourself what would Jesus do.

I understand your concern. However, it was announced in church that anyone could go to camp, no matter how many times they attended. Maybe you missed that anouncement. No one was turned away who wanted to go. As far as the rules, I was not in charge but worked in conjunction with those who were. I'm curious, did you personally check with Aimee to see if your child could go? JUST wondering.
It would be interesting to check the tape! I'm smiling and this really dosen't concern my child because he got to go. On a positive note, I do want to say that God Squad is an awesome blessing and I truly appreciate EVERYONE who works hard to make it work!
