duh vinchee coat

Have you noticed all the hub bub concerning the upcoming Da Vinci Code movie? Man, you'd think the world was going to end or something. Now I must confess, anytime you mess with Jesus in a book, be it fiction or non-fiction, you better not be the cause of someone to stumble. Jesus was clear about that in The Book. I'm always leery of the effects that a book like Ken Brown's (the author) can have on people, especially those who are ignorant regarding Christianity.

But that aside, what's with all the Christians who are scared to death of the book or books like it? I listened to Dobson a little last week and all he did was whine and complain and I ask myself, " Does he realize who the victor is in all of this?" Jesus has already won the victory and that is eternal truth. But listening to Dobson and other Christian leaders, you'd think we'd have the lost and must high tail it to the hills. Come on! Jesus does not have to be defended. The Bible does not have to be defended. Truth stands on its own and wins every time. That's not to say that we are not to be able to defend what we believe or be able to articulate it. But for crying out loud, The Da Vinci Code will be here today and gone tomorrow. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. He is eternal God and His Word stands forever. You can take that to the bank.

I've read Brown's book. It's view of Jesus is purely heresy but I'm not scared of the book. However, I do fear God and and know that one day we must all stand before Him and give an account, especially as it relates to how we responded to his son Jesus. Responding to Dan Brown is one thing. Responding to the God of the universe is quite another.

AMEN! AMEN! AMEN! Sometimes I don't think these people know that truth will win. Like the song the Gwins used to sing says...... We win! We win! Hallelujah we win! I've read the back of the book and we win!" True, we need to make truth known but running scared won't cut it.

I appreciate your observations and words of wisdom, especially the part where you said this movie will come and go, but God's Word will remain.

One note of concern...the DJ's on KLOVE were talking about this movie, and movies in general a few days ago. They said a recent poll showed that 12% of people who watched a movie about the occult and/or witchcraft said that it stirred an interest in them to learn more about the craft. If 12% of the people who watch the DaVinci Code believe the story line, then there are going to be a lot of mislead people out there.

That worries me.

i'll probably go watch the movie, but i doubt i'll take the time to actually read the book. sure has stirred up a stink hasn't it?

I couldn't agree with you more, UncleR. I read the book and enjoyed it for what it was . . . FICTION. We should not be afraid of media like this . . . if anything, we should use as a forum to open up discussion with those around us about The Truth. We can either be afraid of it and let it win, or we can talk about it and make it our tool.

By the way . . . it's getting bombed by the critics.

Just wanted to post 4 big lies from The Da Vinci Code for anyone interested...

Big lie #1: The deity of Christ is a fourth century myth
Brown contends that the doctrine of “Jesus is God” was invented by Constantine at the Council of Nicea (325 A.D.) in an effort to unify a religiously diverse empire. NOT TRUE!

Big lie #2: The Gnostic gospels are reliable sources about Jesus
Brown claims many other Gnostic gospels were unfairly omitted because they rejected Christ's deity and celebrated his humanity. NOT TRUE!

Big lie #3: Jesus was married
Brown claims Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene and says the gospel of "Phillip" supports this claim. In addition he claims that the “Holy Grail” the cup Christ used at the Last Supper to symbolize his blood is actually a daughter Sarah, fathered by Jesus, who carries his bloodline. NOT TRUE!

Big lie #4: There was a conspiracy by the church against women.NOT TRUE!
Brown puts these words in his characters mouths "Powerful men in the early church 'conned' the world by propagating lies that devalued the female and tipped the scales in favor of the masculine." Robert Langdon, The Da Vinci Code p.124

Jesus was the original feminist. He intended for the future of the church to be in the hands of Mary Magdalene" Sir Leigh Teabing, The Da Vinci Code p.248

Although the Christian faith gets a bad rap when it comes to equality, Christianity was revolutionary in advancing the rights of women in a world that treated women like property. The Apostle Paul wrote these words inspired by the Holy Spirit, There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female. For you are all Christians—you are one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:26-28 (NLT)TRUE!
